One of the Best Wineries Near Atlanta: Accent Cellars Tasting Experience

Accent Cellars is a boutique winery located in Dahlonega, Georgia, just a 1.5-hour drive from Atlanta. It is considered one of the best wineries to visit in the area. Founded by Tristen and Katie Vanhoff, along with Tristen’s brother Tyler Barnes, the winery focuses on small-batch, high-quality wines. They source premium grapes from Georgia and other regions in the U.S., offering a diverse selection of styles, including dry, off-dry, sweet, sparkling, fortified, and unfiltered wines. The tasting room is open seven days a week.

Having tasted all their wines, I personally prefer their white wines, though a few reds also stood out.

White Wines: The Strongest Category
• 2022 Blanc Du Bois – My favorite! It has an intense grape aroma, a slightly sweet profile, and notes of toasted citrus, offering a beautifully layered taste.
• 2023 Gewurztraminer & 2021 Muscat Canelli – Both are great choices with unique flavors and well-balanced profiles.

Red Wines: Hitch Hike Red Stands Out
• Hitch Hike Red – My top pick among the reds. This semi-sweet Muscadine wine has tart red berry notes, well-balanced acidity, and a refined taste when chilled. The aroma is also excellent.
• 2022 Underdog – A solid option with an off-dry style, featuring tangy puppet fruit notes. Made from Georgia-grown Chambourcin, it retains the essence of a traditional red wine.

Dessert Wines: Best Muscadine Choice – Strawberry Mango

Among the Muscadine-based dessert wines, Strawberry Mango is my favorite. Although these wines aren’t made in-house, the flavors are enjoyable and worth trying.

Final Thoughts: White Wines Shine, Reds Have Highlights

Overall, Accent Cellars’ white wines outperform their reds, with Hitch Hike Red being the standout among the reds. If you enjoy Muscadine wines or want to explore Georgia’s unique wine offerings, this winery is definitely worth a visit.

Accent Cellars is by far our favorite winery in Dahlonega. We are an hour away and make the trip up multiple times a year to visit. They have great games and puzzles for our toddler. In the summer they had multiple bubble activities for the kids. The atmosphere is amazing and the people are even better. We always bring a bottle home for special occasions.

We hosted our small rehearsal dinner on the patio, and it was perfect! They were so attentive and helpful from booking to the day of. Even though it was January, the climate-controlled patio provided a warm and relaxing environment. Their wines are so delicious with variety for different peoples’ tastes. Our bartender was outstanding and provided the best service (I wish I could remember their name, but huge thanks!!).

Absolutely love this winery. Underdog was the best Chambourcine I have ever had. A must to come wine tasting. The staff is great and friendly. Had to come back before we left from our vacation here.

Oh my gosh! This place. ❤️
Went because you can’t not check out a biz with 460+ 5-star reviews. Absolutely deserved every one. Tori was amazing! Super knowledgeable and helpful. Gave her minimal direction for a flight (Cabernet Sauvignon as fave and mostly drink reds but not a wine connoisseur by any means). I wanted to try a variety. She created my flight and I ended up walking out with the bottle of Chardonnay she had on my flight. Amazing wine!
Love the story of ownership, the artistry of the labels, the vibe and the obvious passion Tori had for the place and their wines! Highly recommend Accent Cellars and I’d totally give it 5 stars plus a bonus star just for Tori…it was that good.

My wife is a wine connoisseur, me not at all. So I’m writing this review with her words. Very friendly staff today. Wasn’t crowded so she was greeted quickly and they put a plan into action. Her first time coming here and she loved the wine. She got a flight of white dry wines recommended by the wine maestro and happily enjoyed them on the covered deck. There’s a small creek that runs beside the deck and there is also another small pavilion with a picnic table. This establishment allows food to be brought in and they are dog friendly!

My family absolutely loved this place. They host classes for yoga and painting, probably additional hobbies as well. Prices are fair, dog-friendly and beautiful. Tyler was knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. We absolutely love this winery and would come back any time. Thank you all so much!
