The museum was informative and very well done, but not all that interesting for the kids. They were warned not to touch anything as soon as we walked in and then had to sit and watch a video, so they were bored before the movie was over. Lots of good information about the local granite business.

A short interesting film to watch on the history of granite in the area. Displays of different types of granite. It was cool to see how the tools and techniques to quarry granite have changed over the years from the beginning to modern times. The staff was nice and more than willing to answer all of our questions.

The museum is free and has free parking 50 cent drink machine inside as well as bathrooms. They have a video that they request for everyone to watch and lots to see including "Dutchy" one of the first granite statues for Elberton South Carolina. If you're in the area you might as well stop by. And don't forget to pick up your free piece of granite as a souvenir.

This place is a great "off the beaten path" museum. Staffed by knowledgeable local folks and full of the history of granite mining and production in Elberton. It's free and open daily from 2-5pm!
