I’m a fan of Dawson for the design and construction of their knives, including the ergonomics, aesthetics, interesting always-changing designs, choice of materials, and of course sturdiness.
1. I appreciate how they have continued to make improvements to their sheaths, although the sheaths are not their strong point. Current generation is best so far, and I appreciate the inclusion of holes and slots to give flexibility in carry options.
2. I was a bit disappointed that the Arizona copper finish on the knife I received had very little of the cool Dawson mottling that was shown prominently in the web page pictures. There was very little mottling on the grind area of the blade (which is the majority of the blade area), and only significant amounts on one side of the non-grind areas.

I bought a shepherd blade a year ago and have been wearing it every day. I live on a ranch in Idaho and usr the blade daily,!and it hasn’t lost its edge, but the kydex sheath belt mounting bracket did. I immediately contacted Violet by phone at Dawson knives and with the friendliest of service, she sent me a return address sticker and within 1 week, I received my knife new and improved custom kydex sheath with new belt brackets. Loving it and thank you Violet and the Dawson family!!

Hands down this is the best knife I've ever purchased! Great blade and one of a kind finish! I got this as a hunting knife! I'll be the first to admit I am hard on knives. This knife makes the job effortless, retains a phenomenal edge and also is easy to clean! The only thing I wish I had for it was a leather sheath instead of kydex! However it's absolutely worth every penny and will be a family heirloom! This was my first dawson purchase of many to come!

I first purchased a Dawson "Smuggler" a year ago and have subsequently found it both functional and versatile -- an excellent, all around "camp blade", small enough to be comfortable to carry all day (and all night sometimes!) and large enough to readily help dispatch the myriad chores that accompany an outing. It has become a favorite, go-to, camp companion. My most recently purchased Smuggler will be a Christmas gift for a camping partner. 'Nuf said!

The order experience from my first purchase was very good. They shipped quickly and had a lot of follow up emails asking about my order satisfaction. The knife I received is a very good quality piece. I have a few issues with the design of the knife and the sheath. The model I ordered was a last production run of the Refuge PE. I like the Magnacut steel and a coated blade. The knife hold an edge very well. I also like the design of the blade in general as I don't like drop point knives unless I'm looking for stabbing knife. The knife has a handle that would better suite a small man or woman, but doesn't fit my hand very well. It's just not wide enough. The handle length is good, the width is good but it's not wide enough to fit comfortably in my hands. Also there is no stippling on the thumb portion of the spine of my knife. Also the sheath extends so high on the handle that it's hard to extract the knife from that sheath. For a $400 knife, I expect a better knife and sheath design. I may try to order one more knife from the manufacturer but if the handle isn't wide enough I'll detect a pattern and sell off the knives I bought from them. Good customer service doesn't make up for design that are lacking.

My first Dawson knife. Wow, quite easily the best I own, even though I have more expensive knives in my small collection. 36 hour shipping from the US to my door in the UK. The Arizona Copper finish is just awesome. Don't hesitate, just buy one!
