Very good quality ballast and rocks! I built a HO Santa Fe themed sectional that required very authentic looking materials. I search the internet and Arizona Rock was the only company that had the right stuff. Their Kinza is perfect for track beds! I highly recommend Southwest Chief Desert Plum as well.

Arizona Rock & Mineral has the best ballast that I have ever used in over 50 years of modeling. The product contains particles that are nearly correct for the railroad I model, are of correct size, and contain a variety of just just enough smaller pieces to add realism. A big plus is it is real rock so it doesn't float to the top of my ballast when I apply glue. I did test it and it contains some small magnetic particles. I ran a powerful 1x1/2x2" magnet over it and picked up a very small amount of dust before I cemented the ballast in place. No big deal compared to scraping having to scrape ballast particles off everything in site with the other ballasts I have tried. The small sample bags he sells are great for determining what you want to order. Just placed an order for 5 bags today. This isn't a huge company and the USPS mail is slow so it takes a bit longer to receive an order, but the wait is well worth it.

I started using the Copper Range ballast many years ago and have it on most of my layout. It is easy to use and looks very realistic. Now I am looking for a different color to use on a branch line and yard. But it is not easy to compare the colors without buying them which gets a little costly. I wish it was possible to get small samples to see the differences in place on my model railroad before committing to a larger quantity.

It's been nearly 60 years I've been into this hobby of model trains. One thing I know for sure is, no ground cover material works as well, or looks as good as using the real thing. I found Arizona Rock and Mineral's various ballast and ground coverings to be about the best anywhere. Their graded rock ballast materials gives the scale modeler the ability to create virtually any scene form from fine sand to a very convincing talus slope strewn with rock debris of many sizes, in their choice of color shades. I even use the material for loads for an ore train on my railroad; the Copper Range material is shown here.

Fantastic products for model railroaders and diorama builders. I ordered some of their ballast samples and was definitely not disappointed. Well worth it to 'try before you buy.' 10/10 recommend for those that are exploring ballast and scenery materials.

Have used their ballast for years on three different layouts and have found theirs to be very realistic. I have ordered thru their website and over the phone and have found them very helpful and pleasant to deal with. I think their products are superior to others. I've just revised part of my layout and am ordering more yard mix to fill the void that I myself created.
