I took two classes here and had such a great time. The first class was on growing lavender - very informative. The second was making a lavender wreath, which was so much fun!! Ellen is fantastic when it comes to sharing knowledge- she helped me pick the right kind of lavender to plant and answered all my dumb questions. The gardens are beautiful and the rows of lavender are simply stunning when in bloom.

Amazing people run this beautiful and relaxing place! In addition to a lovely selection of fresh herbs they also host a butterfly sanctuary during warmer months. Partnering with local producers of various kinds, their onsite shop has a lovely selection of sale items. The somewhat lengthy and beautiful rural road back into their property creates a sense of place making this farm a true "destination".

We visited Beagle Ridge on a Sunday morning. What a neat experience! Katherine greeted us at the door with a quick overview of the farm and answered some questions about the lavender crop. The shop was nice with great products and we bought several items. The sample garden was interesting filled with winding paths, flowers, gazing balls, herbs, butterflies and bees. Ellen, the owner, and Katherine checked on us frequently answering all of our questions so that we learned a lot about lavender, bees and butterflies, and their history. The farm has a great LOVE sign for photos, clean restrooms, and a chance to stretch your legs on a little hike to a pond. It’s a beautiful place.

I caution anyone planning to do business with Ellen. Twice now I have driven 7 hrs round trip to pick up plant orders from Ellen only to arrive and my whole order not be there. A couple of years ago I ordered 17 flats of field plugs from Ellen and paid a deposit to secure the order. We spent quite a bit of money and countless hours preparing our farm beds for that number of plants. We arranged a pickup day and I arrived at Beagle Ridge to find out that 1/3 of my order didn’t exist (for reference this was 300' of gravel beds that we made unnecessarily). Ellen said she sent out a mass email but I checked all of my inboxes and folders and I had no such message. She had held onto my full deposit amount as well without reaching out to see if I wanted to change my order knowing that she couldn’t fulfill it as is. I hoped that since that time Ellen had worked out kinks and changed her business practices to ensure something like that didn’t happen again. I was wrong. This past fall I placed an order for 6 flats of field plugs and 2 flats of larger plants. I paid a deposit of $175 and again prepared our farm beds for planting 192 lavender plants. I was in contact with Ellen in March and again last week about arranging pickup. She said nothing about changes to my order. I arrived yesterday morning to most of my order not existing. Ellen had the 2 flats of larger plants (still not my actual order, I ordered 4” plants and she had 2” plants) but none of the 6 flats of field plugs were there. Again Ellen says she sent out a mass email- I have no email. I have twice now driven hours and given up an entire day of work at our own farm to pickup orders at Beagle Ridge that don’t exist. Ellen held onto my $175 deposit for 7 months and I question at what point she was going to refund that money since she apparently knew since November that she couldn’t fulfill my order. As a business owner, if you know that you cannot fulfill someone’s order you contact them directly as soon as possible to give them the option to change or cancel their order, and arrange any refunds due. You do not send out a mass email with no follow up. You do not hold onto someone's deposit for 7 months knowing the order does not exist. When I expressed my frustration to Ellen yesterday her responses were callous and completely lacking in empathy or remorse. She said I was lucky to get the plants that I got and “I don’t know what to tell you.” A genuine apology would have been a good start. We will never do business with Ellen again.
