The state park is gorgeous and scenic. You need to of course pay a day pass or be a campground user to access the park.
The gates close at ten at night so if you’re camping you need to make sure you’re back before they close the gate or there is no re entry until six am.
There are multiple hikes and walking paths throughout the park. Some are challenging and many are moderate or even easy.
There’s a lot of wildlife here. I saw quails for sure and lizards. Saw a dead rattle snake. Heard coyotes and saw some rabbits.
It gets hot with no shade options for the most part. You want to come prepared for all of this in mind. Good footware, skin protection and a sun hat.
They have a neat little gift shop with some magnets and stickers.
The park is well maintained with great trails.
Clean.
Day use area seems to close at eight pm per the signage at the parking lots.
I stayed here many nights in the campground and it was great.
Note for campground:
Sites are paved and nicely levelled to begin with.
Electric and water sites.
The dump station has two spots which is also nice.
Showers and washrooms are very clean and nice to use.
Some sites are spaced out really nice and offer great views- others are backed into one another and kind of annoying with no privacy.
Staff is super friendly and accommodating.
One of the campground washroom/shower houses was closed for renovations so they only had one for all the campground users.
They close between 1-2 for cleaning.

We used a daily access pass to get into the park. There is a nominal fee for the pass but it is worth more. The trails are marked well with different landmarks to help you find your way. Can't wait to go back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff and the camp host were very friendly and helpful. Quiet campground and the campsites are spaced well apart. I recommend booking a site at the higher end of the campground closer to the Superstition Mountains. You get a bit of a better view from those sites.

Great views and nice campsites. Lots of great hikes right from the campground as well as many a short drive away. My only ding is bathrooms have be down for six months. Also, there are only two bathroom/showers for the whole campground. A long walk from many sites.

I think Apache Junction and the whole gold canyon area is just beautiful. I love how close it is to the Mesa airport and my aunts’ house, and there are so many good hiking trails here. Looks like a good place to camp as well, though I have no first hand experience.

Very nice layout. Plenty of space without being side to side. Nice restrooms. Electric and water only. Not sure about dump station. People are friendly that work there. Best of all was the view of Superstition mountains. $39 a night

We camped here for one night and really enjoyed it! It is close to the city so you can definitely see city lights and hear some cars but we also saw wildlife and heard coyotes throughout the night so you still feel like you’re in nature. Campsites are spacious and rustic, as advertised. We were a bit annoyed that one bathhouse was closed, but the bigger/nicer bathhouse was open and clean so it was all good. The saguaros all around make it feel magical, especially with the mountain backdrop.

We loved staying here. It’s really peaceful and the view from our campsite was stunning! Walking the trails felt very safe and they were well marked. There’s a dog area that is fenced in which our pup also enjoyed. My favourite time of day is golden hour aka sunset. Made everything come alive. We stayed at campsite #68.
