I inherited a big box of 8mm film that sat in a closet for many years. Finally, I decided that I needed to preserve them and turn them into a movie to give my Mom for Mother’s Day. I looked online and found a few big companies, but none of them offered anything close to 4K and I wanted to turn the videos from yesterday into something we are more used to watching today. I went with Video Conversion experts and couldn’t be happier. The movies turned out amazing. I added music and it was a hit with all of our family and drew many tears! Brad was amazing at helping me get exactly what I wanted and they were so careful with getting the film back and forth through the mail with a very good tracking service. I can’t wait to do this again with our old VHS movies!

I found Video Conversion Experts during a search for providers of conversion services for 16mm movie film. While not the least expensive service that I found their website outlined in excellent detail the reasons that they were not the cheapest. I sent them a 300 foot film of my high school senior class trip to Washington DC, a film 55 years old this year. The conversion of this Kodachrome film stock was superb and it looks like it was filmed just yesterday (were it not for clothes and hairstyles!).

As I said, VCE is not the least expensive service. However, if you have film that has high sentimental value and you want the best possible conversion this is the firm to use. You will not be disappointed.

Brad and VCE digitized 22 of my family’s 8mm home moves and two VHS tapes. As a professional in the film preservation field it was important to me to have these films expertly handled, scanned, and receive preservation (2K DPX) and access (MP4) level files. After researching several companies, services provided, capabilities, and past clients I decided VCE was the best choice. They didn’t disappoint! The customer service was excellent- they asked questions to make sure my needs were met, to alert me of some odd anomalies with the reels, and we’re flexible as the VHS tapes were added to the order later.

After receiving the drive and reels we were thrilled with the results and now that I have the film and the files I feel secure in having digitally preserved our family history.

I've used their film (8mm, Super8mm - sound and no sound twice now for thousands of feet of film going back to the late 1950s and have always been impressed with their quality. The original film from the 50s and 60s was shot on very basic cameras from that time period yet, when the original exposure was good, the restored footage was hard to believe! In the second batch of Super8 sound I sent them to restore and digitize, I had footage of my German Grandmother singing to my son in the early 80s. Shot on a Canon 1014XLS, this restored footage looked fantastic! The sound was perfect as well. If you have footage that you know contains some irreplaceable gems, this is the only place you should consider! FYI - I ran across 6 more reels of 8mm (no sound) consisting mostly of air show/race footage from the 60s and 70s - this is pretty boring to most of our family so I thought I'd save s I me $s and use a different film restoration service who claimed that they were as good as anyone for less...well, they were less expensive and the turnaround was fine but there is a very noticeable difference in the quality. I will be going back through the footage and will send any footage I want restored for keeping to video conversion experts. They are not cheap but the old saying is true here "You get what you pay for". FYI - I did not use image stabilization on any conversion because I prefer the old school "feel" of the old cameras.

I submitted 35 8mm reels of film from the late 70s and early 80s hoping that Brad and his staff could restore and convert them to mp4 files. This film was previously converted by a local service with disappointing results. Brad and his staff did an excellent job in restoring these old reels. I especially appreciate that Brad is so accessible and responds promptly to all questions. We will be using this company for more conversion services and have recommended them to all our friends.

Great work, great communication. I had historical 8MM, Super 8, and 16MM reels dating back to the 1930s that needed to be digitized for a feature documentary for theatrical release, so the need to have a well-executed digitization was important. Video Conversion Experts did an excellent job in 4K resolution, including denoising and color-correcting. Couldn't be happier with the finished product, and with the communication with the company. Would absolutely recommend!
