Beautiful theater with plenty of charm. We saw David Nihill who was hilarious, a great story teller from Ireland … I would recommend seeing him if opportunity arises ….

This is a nice old theater. I didn't see a bad seat in the house. It's on the smaller side, for the older California theaters. It doesn't have the architecture of the the Crest or The Bob hope/ Fox but it is still nice.

Pretty refurbished theatre with good leg room and plush seats. Sound system is very good and there are bars on two levels plus some great candy choices. If booking the mezzanine the first row BB in the middle may be obstructed by av/sound equipment. Super cool Medieval decor inside.

Simply amazing!
They sound awesome!
Such a nice venue and a nice theater. Lots of room and staff are extremely friendly.
Hope to get to experience that theater again.
Before you go to the venue, you should always take time to go to the old fisherman's wharf and put your feet in the water.

The Golden State Theatre in Monterey, California, is a delightful venue that offers a truly intimate and charming experience. Though it may be smaller than other theaters, that only adds to its appeal, creating a cozy and personal atmosphere that larger venues often lack.

The theater’s vintage architecture and classic design make every visit feel special, offering a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The seating arrangement allows for excellent views of the stage, and because of its size, you’re never too far from the action. Whether you’re attending a concert, a performance, or a special event, the close-knit setting makes you feel more connected to the performers and the experience.

The theater is also conveniently located near some of Monterey’s best attractions, including the Old Fisherman’s Wharf and a variety of restaurants. Whether you’re a local or visiting Monterey, catching a show at the Golden State Theatre is always a memorable experience. Its charm, warmth, and character make it a standout venue for entertainment in the area. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a more intimate and unique night out!

I know this is an old theater and I can appreciate the beauty of that, but the restrooms really need some TLC. I think the fixtures are original! Some the the sinks were broken. And the stalls were running out of toilet paper before the main act started.
But I think my main disappointment was the lack of communication between the workers/management. We received an email from the theater that we would be allowed entry at 6pm for our VIP experience. They would not let any of us VIPs in until 7pm - which was the same time they let general admission in!! So there was no benefit to getting the VIP tickets. When we finally did get let in and I went to find my seat, I was told by an employee (or maybe security guard?) that he did not think I was supposed to be in there yet! They need to get everyone on the same page and not send out false information in their emails!
