It’s always worth attending Santa Cruz Shakespeare! The ground and side seating is excellent. Bring a blanket and jacket or gets chilly. People bring their own snacks, wine and beer can be purchased along with coffee and hot chocolate. I prefer a giant bag of popcorn and a few beverages.
In true this-theater-is-outside-in-the-woods fashion, in the last performance a barn owl landed hooting on the backdrop. Watching theater under the stars among the trees is magical. Become a patron and get cool seat cushions & your name in the program!

Get thee hence to Santa Cruz Shakespeare in haste! A real gem in the community, just don’t forget your sun hat and water. They aren’t kidding about never having to cancel for rain during the summer season. Sunshades were up but there was still full sun on the sides. The food, drinks, and snacks (popsicles specifically) hit the spot on a warm, family-friendly matinee day (under 6 not allowed ordinarily). The crowd was decidedly older and someone had to be ambulanced for heat stroke, which was handled compassionately and did not stop the show. Restrooms and water fountains available at the entrance. Tickets more affordable for seniors and students. Parking is $5 or free if you drive four or more. Seat cushions available for rent or BYO. Coolers welcome. SCS also supports the schools with a discounted educational show in the fall.

Come enjoy Shakespeare's plays and other theater productions. What better way to enjoy excellent casts than in this lovely redwood grove!

(Bring your own cushions and, if you're coming to an evening show, a blanket is probably a good idea, too.)

Consistently phenomenal acting, minimalist but clear set designs, and lighting and sound designs that blend so perfectly and seamlessly into the world they craft, you almost forget that it's all a show on the stage. If you're trying to decide whether you want to see a show here or not, let this be your decision-maker: go.

Great performances under the redwoods. What could be better? (Maybe a longer season)
Just saw RII and The Agitators this year; compelling and thought-provoking. It’s just beautiful here!
