5 stars for the excellent service helping us cut through the red tape and annoying endless voice mail we encountered while attempting to resolve issues with another public office. Juan Rodriguez, a field representative in this office, took a personal interest in our problems and continually intervened on our behalf to find solutions. He is an excellent example of the quality of personal care and service we received from Assemblymember Ash Kalra’s office.

My best friend has had the absolute worst experience with Ash Kalra's staff. When they contacted his staff to try to get assistance with a MediCal/DentiCal problem. My best friend ended up needing a cranial brain surgery and a dental implant removed at Stanford. Lost their career and ended up on disability. Stanford's doctors appealed to DentiCal to approve periodontal cleanings and a dental partial for my friend (covered benefits under DentiCal). To protect the extensive and dangerous nerve and gum damage. DentiCal's consultants lied in their official letters and claimed there is no nerve damage and no need for periodontal maintenance in my friends case. Kalra's staff went along with the lies by the DentiCal consultants. My friend's condition has deteriorated and my friend is on serious opioid painkillers. All my friend wanted to do is get better and return to work (pay back into the system). A dentist at Western Dental informed my friend DentiCal has approved dental partials and periodontal cleanings for other patients with less serious cases. But refused to provide that statement in writing. Many people (especially people of color) have systemic problems with the CA Department of Social Services (which are supposed to provide services for the most vulnerable in our society) but the state legislature tend to ignore systemic issues. The audit that was done against the CA Department of Social Services several years was not conducted the right way.
