Costco Business Center - San Jose, California

When Costco Business center opened up three years ago, people in San Jose East were elated. Costco Tully Rd was overcrowded always. As regular Costco goers know that there are subtle differences between the regular Costco and business center. For eg. there is no bakery, selective ethnicity based foods (Thoor Dal, special Rice, exotic ones etc) are not available. But for most grocery items, bath products etc this is super handy setup at a perfect safe location. vegetables in the produce section especially will be vastly different.
Finally with a Costco gas station opened up, Costco saved the lives of San Jose east people. A true strategic location indeed. Clean and not at all crowded. A great shopping experience.

I only go to business ctr when I need to get stuffs in bulks for large gatherings, especially their halal meats. It’s great that they’re now carrying Crescent brand hand-slaughtered hormone-free halal chicken too(I wish they carry Crescent brand chicken leg quarters by the case too though!). Their items are always fresh until I saw mouldy Tillamook cracker cuts cheese today, 21st Oct. The expiration date is 2025 but it’s clearly mouldy. I didn’t really check other items in the chiller section other than meats and cheese though.

Everything else in the store seems good but Maria who is stationed at the entrance/exit checking our membership card/receipts could use a bit of a smile esp to the minority & religiously visible customers!

This is one of the most convenient Costco business locations. They have an amazing variety of products which speaks well for their merchandising strategy to cover both consumers and businesses equally well.

They do have a new gas station which has opened with multiple Lanes and adequate filling stations. The only issue is accessibility to this location is limited from the warehouse side as the other entrance is always blocked. I understand from one of the discussion forums this was because of the city's mandate. It does not look like the city wants to give any consumer or citizen the right to use an entrance which is convenient! They always want to make it tough. 🙂
So I would advise patrons to make sure that they go inside the warehouse parking lot to access the gas station instead of entrance from the Capitol expressway side.

There is an added convenience in the premises because of the additional stores such as Starbucks and Xfinity located there.

This place is my jam ever since I moved close by. I love this place because it’s a quick in and out every time compared to the normal Costco’s. This is a business Costco which caters more to business and doesn’t have all the items you would buy for you home like flowers, beauty care, liquor, and clothes. However they do have some items you would find at a regular Costco like chicken wings, water, snacks, etc. keep in mind this place does not have a food court which makes it less busy. If you get meats and milk be ready to freeze your tail off because there’s a huge walk in freezer. Last thing is they’re building a Costco gas station in this plaza so it will eventually get more busy. They also opened up a Starbucks, xfinity store, and soon a raising canes.

This location is so mellow compared to a regular Costco store, with easy parking, a store that is not crazy busy like the regular locations providing for a fun, relaxed shopping experience, and short checkout lines. As this is a business center location, there are some things this location doesn’t have that a regular Costco does (no food court, clothing, bakery, or wine section here), but for any Costco runs that I don’t need anything from those categories, I will shop at this location. Highly recommend!

Firstly, this is NOT a normal Costco.

UPDATE--the San Jose Costco Business Center now has a convenient gas station.

AND, if you haven't heard, that 4% that the Costco Visa gives you on gas--any gas, worldwide, up to $7k/year--is now a whopping 5% at Costco gas stations!!!

There are 3 Costco Business Centers in the Bay Area. (plus one in Sac!)

Hayward was first, then S. SF (just above the airport), then the newest outlet in San Jose.

Each one has been bigger, newer & shinier than the prior installation.

And the hours have expanded.
Business centers were originally closed on Sundays.

The Hayward & SJ Business Centers now offer gas.

And ALL Costco members have access, which wasn't always true.

DIFFERENT STUFF:
No books, DVD's, electronics (except those tied to small businesses and restaurants), clothing, bakery, pharmacy, etc.

More bulk sizing.....think giant can of tuna & other items. Macaroni & other noodles....a box instead of a package.

While all Costco stores have bulk sizing biz ctrs take that to another level.

Lots more frozen foods.

Check out the frozen Okra.
An inexpensive way to add a low calorie, high fiber nutritious veg to many dishes, anytime.
Good on the budget also.

Massive selection of sodas, snacks, jerky options, nuts, crackers, over several aisles--frankly nearly the entire middle of this vast store.

The fridge area:
Mexican & other cheese options.
Bags of jalapeno, anaheim, poblano, shishito peppers, cilantro, and more.

Tons of bulk meat not available at your local Costco.

Multiple types of 'creamers' for coffee in the fridge area.

Cleaning supplies, restaurant options like take out products, paper plates, plastic utensils, to-go, etc.

Items you'd find at a convenience store check out like individually packaged aspirins.

Safes and money counters.

Appliances used in commercial kitchens.

If you have time, walk the entire store on your 1st visit. Get your steps & get to know the store. Bring a jacket to see the full refrigerator area--it will be worth it!

They had yeast even when people on NextDoor thought that was an impossible find.
Giant tubs or cornstarch for less than $3.

More rice, flour, beans options, than our normal warehouses.

Fabulous staff.

The Business Centers have VERY different hours, so look before you make a plan to visit. Open earlier.

Until recently they were completely closed on Sundays, now just shorter hours.

Don't forget your cooler bags.

An aisle of BULK spices--share or gift to family/friends.

Mesquite for barbecuing.

If you go to a Business Center thinking it will be the same as your local Costco, you will be confused and disappointed.

Go with an open mind.

While I may go to our local Costco more than once in a week, the business Costco, for us, is more of a monthly or less expedition.
Partly because of the distance, but also because the offerings are quite different.

You can buy a safe here.....a money counter.

Meat galore!
A side of lamb.
Ground lamb.
Marrow bones.

Not the place to get fresh fish, but we can get that at all of the other Costco stores.

Parking is easy and ample.

If you don't see a small or restaurant oriented appliance you want/need, ask. They can order things they don't stock, still passing along their savings.
Small warning: I'm not sure if you can return special-order items, so check on that before you order.

Aside: The Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi no longer offers extended warranty coverage for purchases made on or after January 22, 2023

Go with an open mind and you may come to love this or another of Costco's business centers' offerings.

Imagine, there are entire states in the US that don't have Costco at all. Louisiana didn't when we visited, but they've apparently added them since.
According to Google, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Wyoming still don't have Costco.

We are so lucky to have both many Costco stores AND 3 business centers. Three!!! (Plus Sac)

Another of the many reasons we are so lucky to live in the Bay Area.

Less crowded, lots more options and choices in many different categories and areas that you may not able to find in the “regular” Costco.

But you may also find lots of the items in the regular store also available here.

The cleanness, the quality, the selection and the efficiency are just as good as any other Costco store!

Even is 15 minutes more to drive for us, we may come back here to be one of the regular shopping locations.

I really enjoyed the no crowds at this Costco in and out very fast service no food court or clothes here less headache they will return if you have receipts very nice not waiting they have a wide selection so stop by if you haven't already
