We took an alternate routes from the trail head and camped at an unnamed lake along the way sure you a late start. Then spent three days around Lake 3 and summited Mt Langley.

Is was as nice lazy trip but lots of amazing views. Only thing that could've been better was the fishing. But it was late in the season so we didn't expect much.

If you don't have the time or stamina to hike into Cottonwood lakes (8 or 9 miles), there is an alternate place to catch Golden Trout. It's the small creek that drains the Cottonwood lakes area (Cottonwood Creek) and, please, Catch and Release only. Take out all trash. It's a beautiful place up around 11,000 feet! So take it easy and you'll do fine.

The first time I came here, it was an impromptu day hike, and so I had to come back. The second time, I got a permit to stay overnight, but my water filter got contaminated, and it was not super fun. I ended up having to camp at the top of langly because I got too sick to come back down and camp by the lakes like I had planned. I would not suggest camping at the top of Langley as it gets very cold and very windy, and if you are sick, it makes it even worse and my permit was not to camp up there but, situations. The sunset and sunrise did cheer me up a bit.

I did not fish here but I know that others do and catch some nice golden trout. There are also big horn sheep, but they are mostly up by Langly.

The hike to the lakes isn't bad. There are some steeper sections, and the elevation will get to you. Just take your time, and you will be rewarded. The beginning of the trail also has a camp for people and horses. I think it's free. It is bear country so plan accordingly and put your food and scented things in the provided bear containers.

I will be back again!

I visited/hiked to lakes 3, 4, and 5 on October 1st, 2023, and I had a blast!! Mother nature tested my abilities as it snowed, sleet, and the wind was super cold!! None of this stopped me from enjoying this beautiful place!!

My brother left his fishing poles behind on accident on the way up. When we got to lake 2 I casted my lure about 5 times feeling a good nibble on each throw. My bro says let me use your pole. He catches a monster golden. Check out the pic on here on maps. My brother don't have small arms either.
