I recently attended this church for the first time for a family member's baptism. I was disgusted by the pastor's sermon of hatred toward the LGBTQ community. He also incorrectly used the bible to state his preference on women's right to healthcare. He encouraged people who were depressed to "have more God in their life" than to go to therapy. There is nothing in the bible that supports these beliefs, and I find it not only appalling but dangerous to spew such misguided and evil beliefs in the name of God. All while encouraging people to give generous donations of course.

Freedom Church is where you can go as who you are... if yoir broken, an addict, an alcoholic, carefree, happy... it doesn't matter because you will be greeted with open arms and a smile. Pastor Joe and Pastor Anna Mejia and family are the most kind and passionate family. They are true to the word of God and do not falter because of what the world is doing.
I have attended this church for the last 12 yrs and drive from Sacramento to Dixon because the experience feels like home, its genuine and real.

When I read this in my devotional a few days ago, it reminded me of why I left this church.

The Lord says "There is no condemnation for those who are clothed in Me! That is why I abhor the use of guilt as a means of motivation among Christians".

Some pastors try to whip their people into action with guilt-inducing sermons. This procedure can drive many people to work harder, but the end does not justify the means. Guilt-evoking messages can undermine the very foundation of grace in a believer's heart. A pastor may feel successful when his people are doing more, but I look at their hearts".

On one Sunday I was there years ago I was appalled at his guilt-inducing sermon on wanting the congregation to give more so he could get his family's personal home built. Another Sunday a family came in late. He didn't know their circumstances of that morning, and without directly mentioning names told the congregation if they couldn't get to church on time, they needed to go to church elsewhere. Had that been me, I would have gotten up and walked out. I thought about doing it anyway, but my granddaughters were in children's church and they loved it there so I stayed. They always asked to go to that church when they visited, and although I didn't want to go there, I took them. I was glad they were getting taught about the Lord and enjoying themselves.

I also didn't like that the Pastor and his wife felt the need to have personal attendants to fetch them water, etc. Always telling them to do this, get that. Giving orders.

It just wasn't a good fit for me personally.
