Unfortunately, having a couple of good mechanics on your staff doesnt make you a good shop, you just got lucky those particular people were working there at that time. The owner Ethil turns into a big crybaby when you complain about their work instead of owning it and fixing the issue. Still a boy, not yet a man.

I've never gotten my car back from Respect without something new being wrong as a result of their work.

Broken top mount bolt, it was cross threaded. I had him install an air oil separater and they left 2 vacuum hoses open and my car ran like crap.

Got my car from the dealership and engine went out within a couple months. Googled Cobb pro tuners and respect was the closest one to me, i usually went to a guy in san jose named bains but that's 100mi from me.

Under warranty, they installed a brand new wrx ej255 and tuned/modded it after the insurance part was done. Took them over one month because of "supply chain" issues, whatever. I get my car back, the next day i had to go for work from Stockton to San Francisco. Buring oil, smoke and head/fog lights don't work.

I emailed the owner and he said bring it back for the lights and itll take 12k-15k miles, NOT 1200-1500 MILES, but 12k-15k to burn off oil from and oil change and header wrap oil/sealer. I took it that weekend, they figure out the wiring for the lights and saw the oil leak and smelled the burn. 10k miles later, still burning and leaking.

The owner completely denied he said 12k-15k and conveniently lost that email. When i took it in again, he said it was missing some oil bold on the front and my skid plate and timing belt were all covered in oil. Charged almost $750 and i argued that it was their neglect, he stated i shoulda came earlier. Next he says he did me a favor giving me a new belt and charged me only $375 to fix... Fix something that should have been QCed when installed ?.

I had their front desk guy merwin write up a brake job for me. He said they can turn the rotors and itll last for a while. My tires start to wobble and i get 2 new front tires and an alignment, doesn't fix it. I go back to respect for an oil change and diagnostic for some work. I asked about the wobble also and they said my brakes are done. When I asked why the last guy said my brakes will last for a while they literally said "you brake too hard" and tried to pass it off on me. After the oil change I get my car back and drive home and it's wobbling even worse than before. I go to my buddy's tire shop and he says they knocked the balancing weights off of the tire and I paid him $20 a tire to rebalance them.

Needless to say I'm never going back here again. I've been there four times and every single time something new happens to my car which is because of their neglect.

Go to Bains in san jose, 37% cheaper for tunes, way better reviews, cobb pro tuner and takes half the time of these guys. Worth the drive for me.

Maybe if the owner was there things would be different but unfortunately his staffs customer service just lost them a customer after I gave them over $15,000 in work.

I'm anxious to see what kind of reply I get to justify all this.

Update: ? i predicted this perfectly. Dont own up to your oversights, blame the customer.

-Dont produce email that Ethil claims said 1200-1500
-blame subaru oem engine, forget that the ship didnt look over a product they ordered and installed
-nobody said you wanted tire balance money, it was stated that they knocked off the balance weights, never said on purpose
-the lights are xenon and expensive, the guy the plugged everything up was cheap and hit or miss. Who plugs fog lights into headlights? You can see from the pictures.

Anyway, this is the type of shop you will experience. Im too busy making real money to deal with this petty nonsense. Good luck with your business.

Honest and professional people, they love what they do. I took my car to diagnose the problem and they found a broken exhaust camshaft, they say that they have to put a used one or if they can fix it to save me money they would, which they did. They know what they are doing and try to find ways to save you money, and they keep you updated with videos of the work process. I highly recommend this place specially for their transparency and honesty.

This place is awesome! I took eclipse in for an engine rebuild they did an amazing job. They updated me every step of the way with phone calls and pictures & videos. The job did take a bit longer than expected but its very understandable due to delay in parts and maintenance issues they had with the shop, things that are out of their control. The quality of the work was amazing they put a lot of passion into the work Goomba, Mark, and shop owner Ethel were awesome. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking good quality work the pricing is not cheap but its very reasonable.

Looks may be deceiving- they talk a good game. After a whole year finding someone to work on my Subaru - I thought for sure Ethel and his team would be able to get my car running again and pass smog!

It’s been months and after relocating, I am still unable to pass smog. I understand you have mouths to feed, but damn…I don’t know how many times I expressed my vehicle needs to pass smog. The bare minimum was done….this place will charge you and arm and a leg just to open the hood.

Not sure where the bracket to my heat shield….

Your shop is cool, but reeks of cats….vinegar, orange peels, and water around the place- it’ll keep them away.

And read the bottom print of your invoice—-I highly doubt it was updated….the storage fees went from $20 to $40. ‘It changed after Covid’ is what I was told. APRIL 2023- it’s been after COVID, I’m pretty sure other businesses have updated their policies— just confused- therefore I believe you doubled the amount just as you did for the storage fees.

Oh boy includes that the transmission dip stick is missing- like bro- it’s in the truck with the other pieces I figured y’all would help me out, but absolutely no love whatsoever when it comes to this shop.

Hella disappointed.

I was sent here by a friend who has a Subaru as well and I couldn't have been happier with the work, cost, and friendlyness of the shop! These guys know their way around Subaru's! The workers are very nice and honest from the get go and keep you updated as work is completed which is nice. The turn around time was very quick and Mark who worked on my car even touched up my engine bay and made it look top notch after the car was done! The atmosphere is very family like and professional, which is refreshing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an honest shop to have work done. I will be going back for maintenance and eventually a tune by Ethil. Keep it up, you guys are amazing! Thanks again!!! ? ?
