I would have rated them higher at the beginning of the pandemic when they were actually trying to enforce distancing. They had a one way up and down system and reminders in the intercom to follow it and to be mindful of distancing guidelines.

Kind of hard to understand why they would take this away during the worst case numbers of the pandemic.

As of late they haven't been opening self service checkouts in the morning. I think by 8am /8:30 you should definitely have self service checkouts open.

I like to limit my in person interactions as much as possible in stores and I always choose to self checkout when possible, it moves faster and you're not standing face to face with a person, yes they have plexiglass at their checkouts but it doesn't actually cover the payment area. Which is definitely less than 6ft between customer and worker. Aside from that if I'm in a store early it's because I need to grab something in a hurry. Having self checkouts is much faster than being in a queue down the aisles. Which in turn makes the aisles too crowded for both those trying to find something on a shelf and the ones standing in line blocking said shelves.

Aside from all this the store is generally clean, has everything you could want/need, and normally at a better price than some of the other stores in Davis

Edit to add that I use the deli here frequently I find it better than the one on covell, and the deli staff are so friendly early in the morning (:

Bakery said they received my cake order for my son's birthday which is today unfortunately no cake order came in never again ill order a cake from them.. disappointed... if I can give there bakery zero stars I would...

This Safeway Bakery did it again with another great cake! It was for my daughter's First Communion. The cake was white with white buttercream and a creamy vanilla custard inside. It was beautiful and delicious! My guests loved it! They will make the cake exactly how you want it. I order all my party cakes here and am never disappointed. The baker did a wonderful job! We also recently had them make her 10th birthday Jurassic World cake. It was a moist red velvet with vanilla buttercream icing. I don't usually get this excited about cake but take my word for it. Order your cakes here. You'll be glad you did!

Clean store, plenty of parking, friendly people, clean bathrooms. All products available. Visit the deli for the chicken wings. Christmas time always provides the Ghirardelli chocolate which i will be sure to purchase after making my morning deposit. Life is good friends. Rejoice!!!

Beware of the meat. They repackage old meat and put the fresh side up and keep the rotten side down. I bought steaks here after going through the aisles trying to get the freshest looking one. Found one that was looking really fresh, bright red and said packaged today. After I got home and opened the pack, a gust of foul scent exploded out. I was extremely shocked, however I was even more confused and baffled. I used gloves to flip over the “fresh” beef and found the underside to be rotten. Watch out don’t trust what you see.

Thank you so much for keeping cooked food ❤️ and I love the fact they accept EBT. I bet every student who goes to this store is happy and thankful to all the people who work in this store. I love this store because it has everything I need And the products are affordable.

There are some great deals at this Safeway if you get the Safeway Select brand products. Don't go in to this Safeway in the evenings--too many people and understaffed--but it's fine during the day.

They do custom cakes at the bakery! They have a flipbook to choose from. They need a couple of days to get the cakes put together. Only $20 for a double layer with filling. The picture frosting has a nice marshmallow taste.

Update: They have his cakes for adults too. I just tried their tiramisu cake slice and WOW it was amazing! Check the dates on the slices for freshness though.
